Cheapened version of former glory
I just purchased 4 of these to replace the ones I've had for years--the springs finally gave out. I use these to remove hundreds of staples at a time taking backdrops off of my shop floor. They still seem to have the same sturdy functionality of the older version but the shape of the handle has changed. 1.--its wider so it is difficult for my small hand to grip. 2.--the handle cuts into your hand because it no longer has the beautifully formed, underside where the edges were thicker and rounded. Now they are just a sharp edge that digs into your skin. 3.--and curiously the finish of the metal actually matters too. The old ones I have are truly a satin finish which gives the tools a bit of grip. The new ones are shiny and slick which makes the grip less reliable. The shape and mold used to be perfect and it really does matter when you rely on a tool like this to get you through hours of staple removing.
