I was given a Linksys EA8300 Max-Stream AC2200 Tri-Band router to test. Before receiving and setting up this router, I was using a newer Linksys router that I had purchased – an AC1900 Mu-Mimo Dual-Band Gigabit router – model EA7500. So, basically, I’m comparing two upper end routers.\
\
Background: I have Centurylink DSL C1900A modem – 20 Mgb/s. I live in a 3000 sq. ft. quad level home with the modem and router located in the lowest level.\
\
Things I noticed right out of the box: \
\
The AC2200 was slightly smaller than my AC1900, which I liked. The box itself, excluding the antennas, is approximately 8 3/8th inches wide and 6 3/8th inches deep. By comparison, the AC1900 is 10 inches wide and 7 inches deep.\
\
The AC2200 is also a little taller in the back, so you have a better view of the wires. This was great for me, since I have my router installed with the backside out. \
\
I liked the sturdiness of the 4 antennas. Normally, antennas are loose and require tightening right out of the box or loosen later as you move or touch them. These were immediately tight and clicked into the desired position. Multiple “click in” positions are available.\
\
I liked the fact that Linksys AC2200 included an On/Off switch. This was also a feature that was included on my AC1900, but it is easier to access on the AC2200. \
\
The AC2200 includes an additional 5 GHz band. Somehow I thought that it might show up as an additional choice when selecting from the list of available WiFi networks, but it does not. You just have 1 – 2.4 and 1 – 5, plus guest choices if you have that setup.\
\
Linksys set-up took very little time with no issues. \
\
I’ve been using this router for 23 days without any problems. I did run a test one day to check for buffering issues. I had a TIVO Bolt with 2 Tivo Mini’s, and 3 Roku’s running 3 Amazon Primes, 2 Netflixs and a Hulu. No buffering was detected on any of these devices. \
\
It’s been handling the following wired and wireless products without any issues: Tivo Bolt, 2 Tivo Mini’s, 3 Roku’s, 2 cell phones, a PS3 and PS4, a Smart TV, 2 DVD players, 2 printers, a desktop, 2 laptops, a tablet and 2 Kindles.\
\
This is my 3rd Linksys router and the only one I didn’t have to pay for. The other 2 were working when replaced and they were only replaced because I upgraded. I trust the brand and feel the AC2200 will serve my needs for quite a while.
