Dissapointed with results... expected more for the money!
I bought the 6 pack of this tape in preparation for painting the entire interior of my home. I have seen the ads and was sold on the product. I watched the how to videos on this website and installed the tape as instructed. I spent most of a whole day preparing my kitchen for painting. After painting the kitchen and waiting a day for the paint to dry, I was excited about pulling off the tape and enjoying my new paint color. When I pulled off the tape, I was extremelly dissapointed to find that the paint had leaked under the tape and all over the edges of my kitchen cabinets and onto my wood ceiling. I am so frustrated and upset at all my hard work now having to be cleaned up, scraped and sanded to obtain the finished look I was expecting. I would not recommend this tape and do not plan to use it for the rest of my house.

Tore the paint right off!
I taped the bathroom before painting and when took in down it tore the new paint off and the existing ceiling paint. I get to redo the entire trim tomorrow because of this...but with different tape! Will never buy 3m tape again.

Quilters love this tape. We use several layers to mark seam lines on our machines, it will not harm our paint or decals. Many other uses that include marking fabric or blocks, we can write our information on it and then remove when finished. Strips of tape can be used to stitch a grid pattern on our quilts. We just place tape on fabric and sew close to edge, remove and reposition and sew next line. The only problem I have is not enought different widths. 1/4", 1/2" would be great!

I painted my walls 1 week ago. Today I applied scotch blue painter's tape for multi-surfaces around the trim so as not to get the trim color on the walls. When I removed the painter's tape, specks of the wall paint came off also. Now I'm going to have to touch up the walls.

I hate Scotch Blue Painters tape because it pulls the new paint off the wall and allows paint seepage.
I hate Scotch Blue Painters Tape. I wasted hours taping and painting my house with this stuff. In every single room I had to repaint, because when I pulled up the Scotch Blue Tape up, the paint either seeped onto another color or it pulled my fresh new paint off the wall. I would have had better results if I had just painted free hand. I do not recommend this product and I will never, ever us it again.

I will say this product works fairly well. Even with all the claims of EdgeLock and other things there is still paint bleed under the tape. The product gets the job done but is overpriced and falls short of its performance claims.

If you're looking for a tape for your painting project - big or small - stop searching! I always use ScotchBlue and I've never been disappointed. It's a great product at an affordable price. Most importantly, it does not cause surface damage. I've safely left it painted drywall, crown moulding, metal and glass for 10-12 days. I wouldn't use any other product for this type of job.

I use it, you should too!
I've used Scotch Blue for the past several painting projects I've had. I use it with confidence on my own projects as well as projects I do for friends and family. I like the way it is easy to apply yet holds firm and secure offering me the security I need to do these projects. When the job is done, Scotch Blue is removed with ease. This all results in a huge time savings, which equals a huge cost savings.
Thank you Scotch Blue.

I give this product 4 out of 5 stars only because the tape tends to rip in certain spots when trying to peel it back from the wall after painting. Only a minor gliche but otherwise works perfect!! And makes for great tape baseballs once we are done and we crush it all and put them in ball form! :)

ScotchBlue Painter's tape is fantastic! I would never do a painting job without it. It is easy to remove and leaves a very sharp clean painting edge. This product has many uses.
I needed a tape that would allow me to tape cords secure to the floor without leaving a sticky residue or looking tacky. I taped my electrical cords down with ScotchBlue painter's tape and it has working very nicely. It looks so much better that anything else I have tried. It is very easy to remove the old tape and replace where needed.

Does the job if you follow the instructions
The product works wonderfully for it's intended purpose.
It doesn't leave any residue on your walls when you peel the tape away.
Remember to peel the tape while the paint is still a bit damp, otherwise, the tape will rip or it will take some of your new paint off the wall with the tape. I am not taking a star away for this since the instructions are clear.

Painted my walls with PPG Porter Paints. Waited 1 week and taped off the walls to get a clean sharp line to paint the baseboards and trim. When removing the tape 2 days later, the wall paint came off the walls in 2"x6" sections in some places. Other places 1/2" x18". I was specifically told to use only this tape when painting and now I wished that I hadn't. I now have to go back and repaint my entire house as the paint was pulled on almost every wall and in other places, the baseboard paint went under the tape and is now on the wall.

I've used this product for all of my painting projects, and it hasn't failed me yet! Paint edges have remained crisp without seepage, even with orange peel-textured walls. Removal has been a breeze; no paint pull-off. Yes, it's a pain to do the prep work, but with this tape, I don't have to worry about cleaning up stray paint later. So worth it!

Safe on Delicate Surfaces
I am a teacher. I used ScotchBlue Painter's Tape on my dry erase board last school year. I created a couple of charts which had columns and rows. We used this for daily activities and to list assignments and information needed by the students. The tape stayed up all year...not a single piece needed to be replaced. On the last day of school when I tore it down, there was no residue left behind and it came down very quickly. I recommend ScotchBlue Painter's tape for teachers for use in the classroom!

I just finished my project wall a wall in my work-room - or I should say I thought I was finished. I took several days to prep and paint because it was important for it to look "just right" when all done. With the paint dry, it was time to remove the Scotch Blue Painter's Tape (Original Multi-Surface) to finish. How disappointing that as I peeled away the tape, along with it peeled large sections of the paint away from the wall edges and thin sections of the tape (close to the wall and door frame) are left in other spots. Instead of a nice, finshed painted wall, all I have is more work. I will have to completely repair and re-paint all of the edges. I would have had more success not using the tape and taking my chances getting paint over the edges and onto the door frame, baseboard and adjoing wall by doing it free hand. I will never use your paint tape again. It was a complete waste of my time and money. Your tape packaging says it's "ideal for: painting walls & trim, Woodwork, Glass, Metal" have you actually used it?? I should not have to take hours with a tweezer and hobby knife to dig out and peel off the tape that is stuck as well as trying to repaint the hunky areas where the tape pulled off paint from the wall. But that is what I will have to do to fix the mess that your tape made. Thanks for the disapointment.

It really pays to buy the brand name product.
I didn't want to pay the price, so I tried an imitation product. I am new to painting and thought that by using the brand name product I was just paying for the name. I taped off the ceiling in my bathroom and painted the ceiling. It is a small powder room and when I cut in the edges, I got paint on the tape (that's why I put up tape). The paint dried and when I tried to pull the tape off, it pulled paint off the wall and the tape shredded making removal very hard and forcing me to touch up portions of the wall. Never again. I am sticking to the ScotchBlue painter's tape because it does what it is supposed to do and does not damage the walls.

Impressed with this product
I have, of course, used ScotchBlue when painting in my home but I never thought about using it for any thing other than that. My son was working on a mulit-media art project for school. He asked me if we had any of the "blue tape". I told him that we did and gave it to him. He began to put it on his art work with me freaking out and thinking he had ruined his project. He assured me it would be fine. When he finished, he removed the tape and to my amazement there was no trace that it had been on there. Everything he had covered was still just as it was before.

When you have a wife like mine, you get to do a lot of painting. It seems that every year we are going with a different color in at least two rooms. Scotch blue painter's tape is a must have for me. I have to admit, I wasn't sure if there was such a thing as a tape that would be easy to remove from walls or glass without leaving some sort of tape marks. After using the original muti use tape, I was impressed that it did what I read it would do and that was come off so easily and clean. So happy that I tried it and now will be a true user.

A Good Paint Job Requires Good Painters Tape!!!!
Even though taping out the molding and baseboards takes time (especially when you're itching to get a coat of Ethereal Blue on the walls), it's well worth protecting those surfaces with Scotch Blue Painters Tape. I tend to be a bit messy and it would be a nightmare to have to scrape off dried paint after-the-fact.
With Scotch Blue Painters Tape:
The tape tears easily off the roll
Doesn't damage the walls, woodwork, trim mirrors, or glass
Is flexible to fit around corners without tearing
Creates smooth lines that paint doesn't seep through
Leaves no tacky residue on surfaces
Overall, Scotch Blue Painters Tape is a must-have product whether you're painting walls, window frames, or art canvas borders. I never start a paint project without it.

Use it for 3D printing and it holds up to many high temp prints without needing to be replaced and still has a surface for the filament to adhere. The glue doesn't leave a mess of goo because of the high heat. It cleans up nicely.

I have painted my entire house probably 6 times in 10 years times. I have always used scotch blue tape and I've used the frog green a few times, but it can be expensive.
Over the past few months, the blue tape that I have used come right off the wall after putting it up. I find myself wasting time time to put the tape back up on the walls before I can even begin to paint. It has become a pain. I wish I took pictures of the failing tape. It looks like someone has TP'd my walls.
Now I have paint up under the tape, so I still have to go back over all of my work. I should have skipped the blue all together and free hand the edges, if that's the case.
Please go back to how it was, until then, I'll pay a bit more for the green tape so i can get the job done.

ScotchBlue Painter's Tape saved the day for me.
As a first time solo painter having something to keep my edges nice and clean was a must. ScotchBlue saved so much time with little roller oops for this first timer. A little slip here and there on to the tape was easily removed when the tape was simply pulled away. Without the tape it would have been repainting time, frustration and more lost time. Thank you ScotchBlue!!!!

Love the color and no left over residue when removed.
Hired a painter to do a Condo, he needed some "masking tape".
So that he could keep going, said would pick it up.
Brought it back in minutes. When walking thru the door, he said
"Oh you got the good stuff !" Commented back "Of course it's 3M
and probably made in america."
Thank You for the best products, will pay more because I can trust they are the best and most always made in USA.
p.s. The painter was delighted.

We use this tape not just to protect surfaces while being painted - but to label our leftovers in the freezer. It pulls cleanly off every surface we've tried - including plastic containers and plastic bags, with enough space for contents and a date - can be written upon with ballpoint pens and felt-tip markers, and the blue background makes it easy to read the writing. Freezing does not seem to affect the ability to stick to the surface - wonderful stuff!

my wife and I did some remodeling last year, we needed to paint the wall a new color, while buying the paint the saleswoman said to use scotch blue tape. It was the best part of the job, tape was easy to use, went on and off with ease and made the cleanup quick, but best of all made clean lines and professional looking work.. I will use this product each time I need to paint anything.

Tape pulled off the paint on my walls.
This is the second time I've had a difficult time with your product, Scotch Blue Painter's Tape for Multi Surfaces #2090. I was painting my kitchen cabinets and used your tape on my kitchen walls, protecting them from the paint I was using on my cabinets. I went to pull off the tape and the paint came off the walls. One spot I could have dealt with but it happened continually leaving me with a new job of buying paint for my walls and painting my kitchen walls. I was told by several people not to leave the tape on the walls for very long. I made sure I didn't.
I haven't had much luck with your product and will not recommend it to my family and friends. The completion time was doubled because of your product. I have learned after this job to cut in the trim freehand, using no tape.
The only relevant evidence I had was the tape with my wall paint on it. My husband mistakenly threw it away, thinking it was garbage. I did learn by this complaint process that I should have taken pictures of the damage.

I recently repainted our bathroom and was very upset when I tried to remove the tape I had placed along the edge of the ceiling and wall. The tape ripped out not only chunks of the wall paint but also the paint along the ceiling. It's rather frustratingId to think you're finished working on a project only to discover that you have to go back and redo a lot of it because the tape you were using screwed it up.

In addition to using this for painting, I also use it for sewing projects. It is my third hand. I use it to secure trims for sewing, items I've glued, close packages and label freezer items. Thank you for a great and versatile product!

Whenever I paint I buy this product to use. It keeps the paint off the trim.

Multiple uses for painter's tape
ScotchBlue painter's tape is my only choice for all of my protective household detailing projects. Of course I use it to cover all of my trim when painting. Last year I used multiple one inch sections to outline a giant heart shape on our bedroom wall and then stamped smaller hearts inside of it. (I have photos.) I use it to hold down glued sections of wall paper that need to be glued again. I have also used it to cover our new granite counter top so I wouldn't scratch it when I added grout to the back splash. Most recently I used this tape to protect the wood around all of my tarnished brass hinges as I refinshed them. I also have a very exciting idea for your company but I will only reveal it to your CEO.

Really is an excellent product
I received this item in the mail to review. I got to use it on a painting project I had ongoing. The application for my purpose really did not work because the 24" of plastic got in the way of what I was painting and also I was outside and the wind kept blowing the plastic on my painting surface. I can see this project really being effective painting the molding on a ceiling protecting the wall or the molding on the floor protecting the carpet so I really believe for those purposes inside it is an excellent product.

I have 6 rolls on hand, that's how confident I am with this painter's tape. Worked wonderfully when repainting outside shutters. Nice and wide, protected the siding. Peeled off with out ANY sticky residue, and no bleed through. Didn't have to remove the tape right away, still did the job after 5 days. LOVE it

My husband continues to buy this tape for my room makeovers and it always causes heartache. Never once have i been able to get a clean line from this tape. We have tried everything and even called people over to lay the tape to eliminate user error.

residue on hardwood floor
this tape was used to hold down ram board down on my wood floor while demo went on for a 3 day job. when i removed it from the wood floor,it appears to have left residue on the floor, embedded in the grain. the floor feels smooth to touch, yet the tape got into the grains. how do I remove it?

Using this product, left me very unhappy, as you can see, paint seeped around the edges, leaving me several hours of trim work ahead. I always thought Scotch brand was so good, total fail....

Took off the underlying paint from the items .
I bought this to use on three projects. \
1. bottom of an old metal shower\
2. top of an old water tank in the kitchen\
3. outside on old asphalt siding.\
\
So far I've removed the tape on two projects, the water tank and asphalt siding. The tape pulled the paint off the the water tank and asphalt siding where it was placed to create a safe line.\
Haven't tried the shower yet.\
\
I am MOST DISCOURAGED by this project. I have used blue painters' tape for decades, probably not Scotch. The hardware store had nothing to say. Now I start over again on the projects, and NOT with Scotch.

I bought it to paint a 3 ft. stripe on my wall and maybe I didn't press down hard enough or something like that, but I didn't have straight lines but rather dots of paint above and below the stripe.

some people prefer their whisky\
and others abide by wine\
for me it's good old blue tape\
the kind painters use is fine\
\
you can apply it to all places,\
it's a quick fix for any job\
blue tape peels off so cleanly\
important because i'm no slob\
\
I use it to hold close curtains\
if I'm traveling and in hotels\
And once I wrapped it like stitches\
when I was cut in a cheap motel.\
\
Sure there's a need for duct and duck\
as brands for a stronger bind\
But I'll always bring my blue tape\
'cause I've got blue tape on my mind\

I absolutely have to have Scotch painters tape when painting around around windows and trim and hardware. Using Scotch brand versus a cheaper product will insure the paint doesn't drip or ooze, or pull the paint off during removal.

Painter's tape tore off all my paint
I have used this type of painter's tape in three different rooms in my house and in all instances, when I removed the tape, the paint came off, too. I am very, very dissapointed in this product and will not be purchasing or recommending it.

While doing a painting project using this tape (which by the way it was perfect and saved me much time) I wondered how to display the many Christmas cards I had received. My management does not allow nails in walls. Here is the best for cards: just make a loop and affix to the card and then to wall. Yes! No marks or mess. I thank you much!

Great Way to Save Your Walls!
I own a Goddard School and am constantly hanging up the children's artwork and other materials for our families to enjoy. Using the blue painter's tape has really saved our walls and make it much easier to take important artwork we want to save on and off the wall easily without worrying about ruining our new painted walls.

Had 2 rolls of off brand tape and 1 roll scotch blue. Off brand worked great, the scotch on the other hand didn't want to come off and when i did get it up, i see paint got underneath and messed up the wood. Also it took big chunks of paint with it off the wall. Im not happy about it and wont buy it again.

In the past, I used the tape to great effect. But the roll I bought recently is terrible. Once the paint hits it the edges curl up, even though they were firmly pressed down. And when I peeled it up the edges we're very sloppy. It even took some of the paint with it! Very disappy.

I used this tape on trim for a weekend paint project (stairway). It is taking the trim paint off as I remove it. This is a new house (1 year) so the paint is in good intact form. I'm not happy!!!

I bought the for a boat project using epoxy. I taped out one color removed the tape. Let the color dry, taped out the dried color used acetone to clean the surface before starting the next color. Starting the next coat, got down to edge of the other color taped out. for some reason the coating started rolling up. i guess the acetone moved a coating from the tape to the areas next to the tape. So i guess this was not the right choice for tape.

Tape functions well for many uses beyond painting
I use this and similar tapes for whatever purposes arise, not just for painting.\
It is a good general-purpose tape for temporarily holding things in place or for temporary repairs. I reviewed it several years ago and my opinion has not changed.
