True to its name, not just a painters tape, has multi-purposes!
I am not a painter by any means, but I have used the multi-purpose blue painters tape for a variety of tasks, including - sticking it on a painted wall/to cover an area to prevent splash [its primary, intended purpose].
For places that need touch-ups for whatever reason: be it, due to too many nail holes made by picture frames over the years, and you decide to patch them up and do some touch up paint. Or you are installing new light switches and you need to tape around that area, or even to prevent accidental punctures when working with tools. It seems to do the job as intended.
But the great thing is that this, really is a multi-purpose tape, and I feel it can take the role of masking tape as well for better or worse. What I mean is, when you are using this tape outside of the painting realm [such as uses intended for vanilla colored masking tape], it does not leave a sticky residue over time, or if it gets heated [a hot day, left on a hot surface/on a hot day, or just over time]. Which saves a lot of trouble. The "worse", although its not really that bad [I know wrong word choice], is that sometimes it may not stick as strongly as you would like compared to masking tape. For example, folded heavy duty plastic baggies [like those thick, I believe 4mil? 6mil?] plastic bags at around 3-6 inch tall to 2 inch wide. An easier example might be, the freezer bag style zip-lock bags, and sometimes even slightly thicker. This tape may curl up on the corners depending on how its used, if the inside of the bag is "pumped" etc.
Overall a great tape for its intent, and other multi-purposes.

I am repainting my walls and I found this tape to be very helpful in keeping the excess paint off od surfaces I did`nt want it on...ie...door jams, window jams, countertops, etc. I would`nt want to paint around edges without it!!!

This tape sticks to the surface applied, keeps paint from getting under edge and comes off cleanly. Better than other brands.

Tore the paint right off!
I taped the bathroom before painting and when took in down it tore the new paint off and the existing ceiling paint. I get to redo the entire trim tomorrow because of this...but with different tape! Will never buy 3m tape again.

Quilters love this tape. We use several layers to mark seam lines on our machines, it will not harm our paint or decals. Many other uses that include marking fabric or blocks, we can write our information on it and then remove when finished. Strips of tape can be used to stitch a grid pattern on our quilts. We just place tape on fabric and sew close to edge, remove and reposition and sew next line. The only problem I have is not enought different widths. 1/4", 1/2" would be great!

I painted my walls 1 week ago. Today I applied scotch blue painter's tape for multi-surfaces around the trim so as not to get the trim color on the walls. When I removed the painter's tape, specks of the wall paint came off also. Now I'm going to have to touch up the walls.

I'm repainting all the rooms in my house. The tape worked well on my wood molding. I got mixed results when I used it on paint. When I removed the tape from a freshly painted flat ceiling paint everything went fine (paint cured about a week; tape stayed on about 1 week). But when I put the tape on eggshell wall paint the paint came off in 20+ spots. This was a small coat closet. (Paint cured about 3 weeks; tape stayed on about 18 hours. I painted the walls before I did the ceiling.) The tape that pulled off the paint was from a different roll; hopefully this was a fluke. I bought a 3 pack and still have 6 rooms to tape and paint.

I painted our dining and living room using the Muti Surface ScothBlue Painter's Tape and the room looks fantanstic! We have crown moulding that I wanted to look clean and I'm glad we used the tape. I painted another room that had no crown moulding thinking it would be fine-- big mistake! I had to go back to the store, buy ceiling paint, and paint the ceiling where I messed up. Using the tape saves a lot of time and money, and of course, makes everything look the way it should.

OK. So decided to paint my bathroom this past Sunday. Bought the expensive Scotch Blue Tape for the so called "clean lines" they promised. They make it look so easy. OK.
14 day clean lines remove did not work. I had taped up'd the ceiling and along the tile. A day later after the paint dried, today, attempted to remove the tape.
Well, the masking tape was very difficult to remove and did not leave me with clean lines. In many places, the tape pulled off paint. And I was pulling very slowly and carefully.
In other places, many times, the tape ripped and was VERY DIFFICULT to remove just after one day.
It got so bad that I had to get a razor blade and cut along the tape through the paint to ensure clean lines.
Not thrilled with the results. I am going to have to go back and do edging touch up which I was hoping to avoid.
Sorry. I don't know if the tape had too much adhesive or what. But didn't work for me.
Save your money and get regular masking tape.

If you're looking for a tape for your painting project - big or small - stop searching! I always use ScotchBlue and I've never been disappointed. It's a great product at an affordable price. Most importantly, it does not cause surface damage. I've safely left it painted drywall, crown moulding, metal and glass for 10-12 days. I wouldn't use any other product for this type of job.

I use it, you should too!
I've used Scotch Blue for the past several painting projects I've had. I use it with confidence on my own projects as well as projects I do for friends and family. I like the way it is easy to apply yet holds firm and secure offering me the security I need to do these projects. When the job is done, Scotch Blue is removed with ease. This all results in a huge time savings, which equals a huge cost savings.
Thank you Scotch Blue.

Great for more than just painting!
We originally bought this tape for use on the outside of our car as we trust it to peel off cleanly without taking any paint with it. It never made to our car as there are just so many uses! One of the main uses is to mark food containers with the contents and date for in the fridge. That way we always know how long something has been in there. This wonderful blue tape ALWAYS peels off cleanly and without leaving any residue.

ScotchBlue Painter's tape is fantastic! I would never do a painting job without it. It is easy to remove and leaves a very sharp clean painting edge. Scott Blue(TM) painter's tape 2090-,75N,.75 in x 60 yd
Is the only brand I use. Reasons: (1) I like when I'm finished
painting my edges stay crisp and perfect.
(2) Easy of application to surface and I can use a spray gun,
spray enamel from a can and not worry about paint bleeding
under any ScotchBlue products (tape).
I don't own a camera or cam recorder but I love

This product has multiple uses.
The temporary, but positive sealing of ScotchBlue Painter's tape allows for a variety of uses. Aside from masking painted surfaces, I have used this tape to temporarily seal containers, post signage and secure/clamp parts prior to connecting with permanent adhesives or fasteners. It holds fast, but removes easily without any evidence of adhesive residue or marring of the surface to which it was attached.

my all time favorite ScotchBlue Painter's Tape
I use for all purposes. I have a roll by the front door to leave a note when going out. I have a roll near the kitchen, so the kids can make pictures and put them on the refrigerator. And of course I have the one in the garage for true painting, but I must admit that is the one that gets used the least. I also use them on Buckets and Baskets and Boxes for LABELING. I think I do that the most. I even organized the neighbors pantry with LABELED baskets. But MOST OF ALL, when I visit a Hospital or REHAB center, I use it to put SIGNS over the patients bed, like PLEASE COFFEE WITH EVERY MEAL. or PLEASE CUT FOOD, only have use of one arm for now. or PLEASE TALK LOUD, Hard of Hearing. I add smiley faces and the signs work great!!!

This product is a lifesaver!
I love using this tape when I paint! Mainly because I do drastic color changes. The tape stays in place when u put it there! It doesn't shift around on your carpet. Every other tape shifted and I always got a speck of paint on my white carpet. Doesn't happen with the 3M tape. I also have textured walls, and it doesn't pull the paint of my wall. Every other tape I bought did!

Painted my walls with PPG Porter Paints. Waited 1 week and taped off the walls to get a clean sharp line to paint the baseboards and trim. When removing the tape 2 days later, the wall paint came off the walls in 2"x6" sections in some places. Other places 1/2" x18". I was specifically told to use only this tape when painting and now I wished that I hadn't. I now have to go back and repaint my entire house as the paint was pulled on almost every wall and in other places, the baseboard paint went under the tape and is now on the wall.

I just finished a painting project with our French Doors and wooden screen doors. I had a roll of ScotchBlue painter's tape and used it to paint the outer screen doors first. I forgot how great it worked. I especially like that when I peel off the tape that the paint does not bleed through at the edges and I like that it's wider so it covers the area so when I brush the paint doesn't get on the surface I don't want painted. Well, I ran out and happened to have an off brand cheaper tape. I was SO frustrated. The tape continued to curl up and fall off and when I did paint and later pulled the tape off, it bled through and I had to use a scraper to get the paint off the windows. This caused me to work double time. I hated it. It convinced me more than ever, I will never paint again UNLESS I have ScotchBlue Painter's tape. It is by far the BEST!!!!!!

I have to admit, I wasn't sure if there was such a thing as a tape that would be easy to remove from walls or glass without leaving some sort of tape marks. After using the original muti use tape, I was impressed that it did what I read it would do and that was come off so easily and clean. So happy that I tried it and now will be a true user.

Use it for 3D printing and it holds up to many high temp prints without needing to be replaced and still has a surface for the filament to adhere. The glue doesn't leave a mess of goo because of the high heat. It cleans up nicely.

I Use scotch blue painters tape all the time for painting. It works great, doesnt allow the paint to bleed under and doesnt leave a residue if removed after a little while. I found another great use. When caulking, put down your tape a wide as you want your line of caulk. Put in your caulk and smooth it with your finger that is wet. Remove the tape. The spray the area with aerosol window cleaner. Smooth again with your finger. The caulk wont stick to the window cleaner so you just let it harden and wipe after the caulking is cured. Perfect even caulked joints. Thanks!

My sister does an art club for about 9 elementary & middle schools in the area here (attendance ranges from 30 - 70 kids - depending on the school). This months project is a motif design of the kid's choice using painter's tape criss-crossing the panel pieces (12 X 12), and then painting the spots with various colors of paint. The tape is then removed to reveal an original work of art. The tape works wonderfully.

Blown away by ScotchBlue tape!
As a DIY expert, I have used what feels like every tool under the sun. From brushes, to adhesives, you name it and I've made something with it. But for some reason, I hadn't given ScotchBlue tape a try until recently. Let me tell you - In all honesty, this has got to be my new favorite DIY tool. The feel of the product itself is unmatched. The sticky side was strong but didn't leave that nasty residue behind on my hands. That alone will have me coming back for more. This review sounds like an infomercial, but I assure you that I'm speaking honestly! I love it!!

ScotchBlue Painter's Tape saved the day for me.
As a first time solo painter having something to keep my edges nice and clean was a must. ScotchBlue saved so much time with little roller oops for this first timer. A little slip here and there on to the tape was easily removed when the tape was simply pulled away. Without the tape it would have been repainting time, frustration and more lost time. Thank you ScotchBlue!!!!

Produces a clean break line
Having multiple rooms to paint I purchased a 9 roll pack of this tape. It worked well where I needed to make the edge line between my ceiling and walls. There wasn't any bleed through and it removed easily afterwards. Only problem was the packaging caused the rolls to get get slightly damaged causing some waste of each roll.

This product is quite versatile
I have used the tape for painting but also for other projects. When I was starting to put cinder blocks around my deck for planting herbs I used it to show my grandson where to place the blocks. It is easy to use and easy to remove which is another reason I like this tape.

I have 3 young children who I have to label every toy, shirt, book, cup, blanket, coat, hat, etc they wear or bring to school and daycare. I use the blue 1/2 to label everything. I also hand every kids art project in my house with it. IT is the BEST!!! It even stays on in the wash for about 5 washes!

all blue tapes are not the same, Scotch painter's tape is better than it's competitors. Goes down smoother, easier to keep a tight, straight line.

No other product is better
This is the easiest tape to apply and remove on the market. It makes painting a breeze. I've been looking for other rooms to paint, since my experience with the tape was so wonderful. I will be using this tape in the near future. Thank you Scotch Blue for making this product.

We have been working hard to repair and rehab an apartment that was totally trashed by the previous tenant. It has involved multiple surfaces and paint of every type and description. ScotchBlue painter's tape has been a lifesaver. I have used other products in the past and been very unhappy with the results. I can't say enough good things about ScotchBlue.

Scotch Blue Multi Surface Tape did the job....
I received a free roll of scotch blue original Multi surface tape in the mail awhile back. I decided to try my hand on the many thrifty items I have in my garage. As The 4th of July was approaching, I chose a patriotic theme. I used the tape to paint a flag on an old window, chair, suitcase, shutter, old window screen and shovel. For the most part I was pleased with the results. There was some paint bleed under the tape & also some paint came off when I peeled the tape off. I think if I had the scotch blue edge lock or delicate surface tapes, this wouldn't of been an issue. Needless to say, the items sold very fast & I'm looking forward to trying the other tapes & making more items.

I love this tape. I do a lot of painting and sometimes put borders of different color paint on the wall. I ALWAYS use Scotch Blue Original tape and never have any problems. The paint doesn't bleed through the tape. I always get perfect paint borders of different colors. The lines are perfect. This is a great product that I will use every time I paint. Thank you for making such a great product.

Great Tape for painting Chevron Patterns
I am always using this tape for our custom painted canvases that we apply a chevron pattern to afterwards. The tape adheres perfectly for our application. We find that the best paint for this is metallic spray paint. Regular sprays tend to bleed a little. The paint removes beautifully without leaving any trace of it being used. We will continue to use the tape for these projects!

In addition to using this for painting, I also use it for sewing projects. It is my third hand. I use it to secure trims for sewing, items I've glued, close packages and label freezer items. Thank you for a great and versatile product!

Love this tape - while my plans were to get my project done in one day, life happened and I had to stop. I had to come back to it several days later. I was fearful about how difficult the tape would be to remove (because I've had trouble with other brands in the past) - NOT SO with ScotchBlue!!! The tape came off with no residue!!

I have a eye disease that makes my vision bad at times, see double ect. I love to change things up every few years and painting is what I love to do. Without this tape it's hard telling what my walls would look like. I love it, keeps everything where it should be. I wouldn't dream of painting without using it. Great product.

I use this for wood flooring all the time and it works great for keeping the plastic up while I sand the floor. Plus if I have to stain an area darker I use this tape to mask it off and I don't get any bleed back

Pulled the paint off the trim
The Scotch blue painter's tape pulled the paint off the trim in my bathroom and also allowed paint to bleed through on the edges.

In the process of remodeling my bathroom and bought quality paint to apply. The bathroom looked great until I went to remove the tape. Pulled off all the paint and now I need to sand the area, buy more paint and re-apply.. Very frustrated with this product

Took off the underlying paint from the items .
I bought this to use on three projects. \
1. bottom of an old metal shower\
2. top of an old water tank in the kitchen\
3. outside on old asphalt siding.\
\
So far I've removed the tape on two projects, the water tank and asphalt siding. The tape pulled the paint off the the water tank and asphalt siding where it was placed to create a safe line.\
Haven't tried the shower yet.\
\
I am MOST DISCOURAGED by this project. I have used blue painters' tape for decades, probably not Scotch. The hardware store had nothing to say. Now I start over again on the projects, and NOT with Scotch.

Very upset with the results in using this product
After being in place for less than 2 days, the product randomly removed the paint from walls and trim. I trusted the 3M brand to deliver a great result and now I have a mess on my hands.

I was a little concerned because we wanted to repay with a metallic gold paint a pole lamp in our living room, and also a vanity table and chair in the bedroom. We were worried about the paint getting where it shouldn't be, particularly with the vanity table. Well, we needn't have worried, because ScotchBlue Painter's Tape worked great! It was easy to apply, and even more important, very easy to take off, and best of all, it kept the spray paint from getting on the attached lamps and the top and drawers. A very nice job was accomplished!

I am masking off a large vertical area for varnishing. I am using Edge Lock for the cut line and then multi-paint masking paper to catch and drips. The tape sticks well to the fiberglass surface but does not adhere well to itself or the paper. I have had to retape the paper multiple times and it continues to fall off.
