    Good Deal
Just received the unit two weeks ago. Installation was easy, the display is a nice feature. Purchased this as a backup to my server. Based on the outward appearance i wondered if it was an older model, but the rep at CDW assured me it was a current one. Will updated if there are any issues, but so far a great deal for a smart ups of this size.

    Great Value for Price
Researched a great many UPS products and found this Tripp Lite UPS to be a great value for the price.
    - 1500VA more than enough for my high end gaming PC and all its peripherals (monitor, external hard drive, modem, speakers, external card reader, etc.).
    - Line-Interactive ensures safety of my equipment from power surges or brownouts.
    - LCD display is clear and provides good information. I especially like the current load output percentage monitor.
    - Price is excellent for an UPS with this many features and capacity.

Does a good job, especially for the price. I really don't need the LCD display, but for new users, this is a plus.

    Good Product
Good UPS for the price. I have consistence voltage drops due too large A/C motors starting up. The AVR really comes in handy. But it too will fluxuate +/- 5v from 120v. However this is still much better than before, I wonder what it would take to maintain a perfect 120v?

    Solid unit
My previous (other brand) UPS had failed a month ago and I had been dragging my feet to order a replacement. After my new home server was shut down twice in a week due to storms I decided to move on a new one. I spent some time looking at all of the new options on the market and decided to try the SMART1500LCDT. This was mt first experience with Tripp-Lite and so far I'm impressed. The unit is solid and the software utility is very good for those of us that like to monitor our power situation. The logging features can give me a look at the power faults that the server has run through without a hitch. This information gives you a good understanding of the return on investment that power issues cause in lost data and hardware issues. I will buy another for my other systems.

    Horrible Packaging and QA
I ordered this product brand new from a very reputable merchant. The product packaging was in no way damaged and it had clearly not been opened. I was very disappointed to discover that one of the sides had not been properly assembled. Looking at the defect, it's clear the product was assembled that way and somehow passed Quality Assurance in order to be packaged and shipped out to business customers. I have pictures of the item just out of the packaging with the plastic "bag" still not completely removed if anyone is interested. Very disappointed as I was really looking forward to having this product to protect my high-end custom-built PC.

Great Unit, EXCEPT for a Continuously Running Noisy Fan :-/
My new SMART1500LCDT is a very solid UPS. The only gripe I have is that during the heat of the summer, the power company typically lowers the voltage to it's customers. Unfortunately, this unit is set to run it's fan on HIGH whenever the voltage drops below 110 Volts (which for me is all day & evening long until about 11:30pm). The unit does not get warm, nor does it seem to be exhausting warm air while the AVR is in Boost mode, so the highest speed of the fan is unnecessary and annoying. A better approach would be to have the fan's speed determined by the UPS's internal temperature, not the input voltage from the power company! I am debating whether or not to return this unit because the noise is pretty unacceptable (and unnecessary) in a home office environment. I wish this problem was fixable via software configuration and or a firmware update! I think the fan will also need to be replaced prematurely because of this, plus the unit will also
    draw in unnecessary dirt faster.

This is a wonderful product. Very easy to set up, quiet and very capable of handling all that's thrown at it. We've had a couple of power outages and it works exactly as it's supposed to. Great product for the money.

This product is a MUST HAVE in my area!
I live in the mountains and our power company is not very reliable. We have a lot of power surges and sags. If you have a very valuable Home Theater system like mine. You need this protection. I had another UPS system, it was also a Tripplite product. It performed very well and lasted for many years. Unfortunalty the battery went bad and it was unreplaceable. If you buy a UPS for your home theater or computer get a Tripplite, and get one you can order and replace the batteries yourself.

Set easy. Disappointed in availability of PowerAlert Software and USB Cable.
The PowerAlert Software needs to be downloaded and link is not provided. There was supposed to be a USB Cable provided, but it was not.

    Set up was easy.

    Great UPS, Stylish and Reliable
I purchased this a couple months ago and have no complaints. I like the display and have important PC, Switch and Server equipment plugged in. It has bleeped once or twice when a surge or millisecond outage occurred. I usually buy APC but I found their batteries seem to die pretty quickly, regardless of overall load and usage around the home. The only reason I haven't given 5 stars is because I have not yet experienced running anything on the Tripp Lite battery alone (no power cuts, thankfully, although I have used the "Test" button twice, which checks the battery-only supply for 10 seconds). I promise to UPDATE the review if I think it will help your decision to buy one for your needs.

Another techie friend of mine also recommended this brand or APC, so I don't have buyer's remorse. It's very simple to unpack and install and has a USB interface if you want to monitor its features from your desktop. For me, the display alone is enough reassurance. I recommend this for anyone who has a small office running critical hardware, or for a family entertainment center. Just be mindful of the technical loads/ratings you need. Watch also for TVs and PC Monitors, as these will suck the battery dry in minutes, no matter the brand or battery size.

Overall, it is therefore a great backup for shutting things down gracefully and for coping with spikes and surges here in Florida (a frequent occurrence). Well worth the money I paid.

    Interface could be better
It does what it says on the box. After suffering two power outages which corrupted my windows installation I purchased this unit from Amazon based on price and performance.

I have connected my PC, monitor, and a couple of accessories. Based on the readouts I should get about 1 hour on battery at normal consumption levels. I think this gives more than enough time to save my data and shut the system down and avoid the corruption that I experienced without the UPS.

I do like the interactive app, although it does seem to lose communication a little too often for my liking. The UPS sits out of sight and I rely on the app alone for checking status of the UPS. I particularly like the app features for that allow for scheduled shutdown and startup.

On the whole this is an effective UPS for the home/small business user with one or two PCs to support. The addition surge only outlets are very useful for my laptop and its separate monitor.

    Automatic Voltage Regulator doesn't work
I purchased this product yesterday and it doesn't work properly. It is passing the voltage received from the utility without regulation. After reading the manual, nothing appears to fix the problem.

    Took direct ESD
I purchased one of these to replace a smaller unit and was impressed with the function during its first power loss, Since then I purchased another for a different room in house. One week later my home had a direct lighting strike, I lost majority of my electronics that were on other UPS setups. The only equipment loss on the two LCD 1500VA was the equipment connected to the Ethernet cable which was connected through the RJ45 ports on UPS. The claims department has been great so far with a quick response and replacements shipped out within a couple of days.

    Good product. No problems.....Nice
This UPS has all desired features and functions at an excellent price. Worked first time out of box. The test pushbutton provides piece of mind.

I did not install the watchdog software because I am a little skeptical of conflicts
between the auto-save function and other programs or setting. The watchdog software should also include a scheduled auto-self-test for the UPS.

    Tripp Lite Saves 3D Printers
We are a business incubator that uses 3D software and three 3D Printers to help entrepreneurs develop prototypes of their ideas and concepts.

Often all three printers are running at the same time and all are plugged into our Tripp-Lite Model 1500LCDT unit. We have had a number of storms recently in Florida and power surges and outages have occurred in the past week. Every time this happened the Tripp-Lite performed flawlessly and kept our expensive 3D Printers from being fried.

    Best product in my opinion
After having several other brands of ups that failed just after the warranty expired I decided to try a triplite. What a difference! This unit is the best I've seen. I like the fact that I can see how much of a load it has and how I don't lose any data due to power outages.
    I highly recommend this product.

    RE/Smart LCD 1500VA
This Battery backup works great, I never new how many power surges we actually have till I hooked this unit up. I live in central Florida and the reason I bought the Tripp-Lite is my two year old HP PC blew up. My tech told me it was from power surges, so I bought two one for my computer room and one for the living room for TV cable box stereo dvr and all other electronic stuff. Its amazing how the dvr box does not shut down every day and the dreaded 30 minute wait for reboot. These battery backups are worth there weight in gold.

    Great Backup for the money
I got this UPS because the battery on my old APC unit was dying. In looking at replacement batteries I took a look at replacement units. I found this unit which is is perfect to replace both of my old APC units for a very reasonable price. I installed it and it has a great run time for my equipment. I will likely be able to ride out the next time there is a power outage without even having to shut down. I love the LCD readout that give me lots of info at a glance.

    Performs as promised
I have had no issues with my Smart 1500. I plugged it in, plugged in my computer and other devices (it is nice having so many outlets), and turned it on. I have had a power outage since then, and it performed perfectly. I am very pleased with this purchase.

    Solved my problem
Every time my air conditioner kicked on my computer power browned out just long enough to make it reboot. My old UPS a 400VA unit was just not large enough and was frequently drained. I purchased and installed the Smart1300LCDT and no longer have had any problems. We had a power failure shortly after buying the unit and was using the computer at the time. I was able to complete my work including printing what I needed and safely shut down. I really love this new unit and highly recommend it. Don't buy a minimal unit when great priced right sized unit is available.

    Electrical Odor
Size and features of the SMART1300LCDT are just right for my needs (2-PCs and network equipment.
However, so far after a week and a half of operation, it still gives off a strong electrical odor, as if if something is cooking inside. Currently, it is at 86 WATTS/12% load, and still smells awful.
I wish I knew how long it will take for this odor to stop. If much longer, this UPS will have to be returned.
I have 4 other UPS's (other manufacturers) in operation, and none ever smelled like this on, even when brand new.

    Functional but needs improvement
This UPS is of the ubiquitous line-interactive topology. At its most basic level it is functional as such. Given its intended use is high power PCs and other such domestic uses, the fan is blessedly silent during normal operation, kicking in only when the inverter is active (during AC fail or buck/boost). Further, the silent mode option does away with annoying alarms during AC fail.

I take exception with Energy Star awarding this (and other UPSs) their label: just sitting there, with NOTHING plugged in it consumes over 20 watts, an excessive amount to keep already topped up batteries charged. The LCD panel itself is of nebulous value: the bright back-light cannot be turned off and the information it presents in terms of load/draw is not accurate enough to be of any real use.

While not tragically flawed in any way, I do believe one can do better at this price point.

    So far very good
I bought this unit to replace an APV unit - primarily because Tripp-lite's UPS was less expensive. It has not been in service long enough for me to judge its performance when it is REALLY needed.

    A Great UPS
The size is great, low profile, so it fits under my computer desk. The display is GREAT. You can select between many different measurements going on. The icing on the cake is a n easy user replaceable battery.

    Good, but some maddening limitations
Well constructed product, solidly put together, seems to be designed to be serviceable (i.e. battery replacement instructions included in the manual), worked right out of the box and does the job.

After finding the correct software on the website and downloading it (what's so hard about including it on a DVD?), I wasted a little bit of time trying to get it to install but eventually gave up trying to get it to work with its own background service -I just didn't need the features badly enough, and I was fairly sure that the feature I needed (see below) wasn't included.

It has a fan - I've never used a UPS that has a fan before. That's fine. But the fan is relatively loud, and runs not only when the unit is on battery, but also when it is in buck/boost mode.

My household voltage tends to be on the high side, and fluctuates right around the voltage at which the 'buck' mode is triggered. So at times this UPS will cycle in and out of buck mode several times an hour, and there doesn't seem to be any way to adjust the set point for the voltage (or % deviation) at which it begins to buck voltage down to nominal.

Overall, so far I'm happy with this UPS!

    My second unit. Very Good
This is a replacement unit for a SMART 1500LCD over 5 years old with a failed battery.

The old unit had all outlets connected to the UPS. The new one has 5 UPS and 5 Surge protected without UPS. This is a setback.

Powerful and compact, with great display
I bought this unit to replace some smaller Tripp-Lite boxes that had served me well for more than five years. The display is bright, clean and easy to read at a distance. Also, the UPS has a relatively small footprint, considering that it's capable of powering two monitors, a desktop PC and some smaller desktop appliances for long enough to ride out most outages.

    Effortless, quiet, competent protection
I upgraded to this Tripp Lite Digital UPS System after the failure of another manufacturer's product left me defenseless against power outages as a freelance editor. Installation was quick and easy, and it sits quietly next to my computer doing its thing. In the event of a power outage I can wrap up a project and send it by email before having to shut down. And I love the LCD screen so I can monitor performance in real-time. Great product!

    Then and Now - Yes
When I was a Data Account Executive with AT&T I highly recommended my clients to utilize Tripp-Lite for backup requirements. I continue to recommend Tripp-Lite as a Realtor. I sell homes to medium to high end clients and they all have expensive equipent that needs protecting. I use the 1300VA to protect my in-home server, NAS, router and cable modem. I cannnot afford problems with my Internet service since it supplies all my data and voice services. I highly recommend this product and all Tripp-Lite equipment. Great products!

Plug and Play at its best
    > worked with no hitches out of the box
    > it is protecting a computer, a network storage device, and a wireless router. It also provides regulated voltage to a printer, a scanner, two monitors, and two speakers.
    > I know I chose a rating that is higher than the expected load by a factor of 2
    > tested the circuitry, and it worked fine
    > was actually present at my desk when we experienced 2-3 short duration (less than a second each) voltage sags, and the Smart1500LCT performed flawlessly.

    Excellent UPS for small office
I got this UPS for my office as I have 2 laptops and 4 PCs running for software testing.
I needed a UPS that would provide both filtered AC power along with short term battery backup for those power glitches.
The SMART 1500 LCDT fits my needs perfectly.
The UPS kept my 4 PCs powered long enough (~5 minutes) to allow me to stop the running tests and power down the PCs without losing any data during a resent power outage.

The Smart1500LCDT is a great UPS for a Desktop Workstation. It is a much better design than the old APC UPS that we used before. It is clearly marked for the battery outlets and the surge only outlets. We plan on ordering multiple units for our Police Department soon based on this purchase.

I am happy that I ordered this unit!!
I have been a Tripp-Lite user for many years, and have been entirely satisfied with my battery backup devices. I appreciate the power display screens, especially my new one with the load meter. No worries! John.

    Great product
Having had a competitors product that died 1 day after the warranty expired. I decided to purchase this one. This unit protected my high end computer system from a lightning strike that took out several things in our home. What more could I ask of this product. It is still functioning flawlessly. I highly recommend this to everyone.

Excellent UPS but buggy monitoring software
The UPS is an excellent product and well build. It's also quite heavy weight wise.  The PowerAlert software and PowerAlert Console are buggy and unreliable.  Works at times and not at others - failing to find the UPS and falling back to a default IP address rather than a USB connection.  Uninstall and re-installl software worked once. But now I can't even uninstall it.

TrippLite needs to get their arms around the software issues.  While the UIPS is great, I'd not give a favorable review to the PowerAlert software.

    Give it a week...
During the first 48 hours, there is an electronic smell that is really bad. It almost got returned.
So far, haven't had any other issues with the unit. And the smell is dissipating.

    UPS Shutdowns System Unexpectedly
I have been having problems with my UPS almost from day one and it relates to my computer shutting down unexpectedly at different times. The computer may run fine for a day or two or it may only be a couple hours before the screen goes black and the computer acts like it is trying to restart but never does. The lights flash for a second and then stops and does this continuously until I pull the plug from the power supply in the back of the computer. I have contacted Tripplite many times about this but they have never responded. Has anyone else had a similar issue that was resolved. A couple times the UPS did it's work with a few second of power interruption for which I was happy. But not happy with my system shutting down without warning, it just goes black and after unplugging the power supply for about 15 to 30 minutes it comes back on. In fact it just happened before writing this.

I would recommend this UPS if it wasn't for this problem, but I would maybe go for the higher end model if money wasn't an object. I thought this would work for me as I only occasionally need it, usually during a storm where power interruption happens but only for a few seconds, but without a UPS those seconds can wreck havoc.

    Unexpected Shutdowns
I had previously not given this product a bad review because I was experiencing intermittent shutdowns due to the UPS logic circuits. I have talked with Tech Support since then and they have accurately diagnosed the problem and have taken care of it. Thanks to Jose from Tripplite Tech Support the problem has been taken resolved, professionally and quickly. I think his supervisor should put a little something extra into his Christmas stocking this year. Because of the way my issue was handled and how quickly I was able to talk to someone in Tech Support I have changed my review to would recommend to  a friend.

    Redesign monitoring software!!!
Good hardware, uninterrupted operation during commercial-power failure...
    Excellent product support...
Bad-quality monitoring software intermittently fails to update, stops working, has to be started and/or restarted multiple times from Windows 7 "services"...
Instruction manual inadequate for troubleshooting software issues...
No firmware provision for verifying communication between computer and Tripplite hardware...

    Powerful, easy to monitor
This product gives me very nice backup power for a high-end PC and several gaming consoles and I haven't had any issues so far. I ran into some trouble in the past with monitoring the load and battery life on backup devices, and with this model it's very easy to notice these details.  The only downside for me is that the fan can be a bit noisy, especially at night.

I feel secure with this UPS protecting my equipment
As I am sitting here in my rural home the wind is blowing and the rain is driving sideways.  Minutes ago while doing my daily business the power went out for a minute.  No problem with the Tripp-lite battery backup on duty. I was able to complete my work with not so much as a hiccup. If you don't have your equipment protected you should.  That small power failure could have been enough to take out my hard drive and leave me high and dry with months of work lost. Not to mention family pictures and other valuable data.

    Software has issues
The unit is adequate and the display is nice except this loud annoying beep everything you press the button to step through the menu.  There doesn't appear to be a way to turn it.  Frankly, I don't see why the user needs a beep feedback when pressing the button, the display changes when you do.
The worst thing is the software for Windows.  Unlike other UPS manufacturers that install a service to monitor communications with the UPS, TrippLite tricks Windows into thinking your PC is a laptop with an integrated battery.  Sounds clever? Yeah, too clever.  This creates all kinds of unwanted side-effects with Windows with absolutely no fix short of removing the software. Nothing like have your desktop PC in power saving mode or dimming the display for no good reason. Microsoft created a method for UPS systems to communicated with OS.  This unorthodox method TrippLite choose is not it.  Its a shame, the UPS is great, high quality; just awful software.  I will never buy another TrippLite with this software issue.

    Good Hardware, Good Tech Support
    Hardware seems reliable and quiet.

Hardware and software technical support was excellent and essential for accurate setup and operation.

Firmware could be enhanced to display communication status with external platform(s).

Communication protocol between UPS and external platform could be enhanced to prevent immediate, non-graceful computer shutdown when USB cable is inadvertently disconnected.

Instruction book could be enhanced to convey critical operational information, such as the necessity for firewall modication, more efficiently to entry-level users.

One mean powerful and necessary piece of equipment.
Although most users of UPS systems use their power back ups for computers, I use mine as well to protect and supply power to my DVR and cameras for my security system.  The DVR used to require to be rebooted manually if the power died and that happened once while I was away from home for a few weeks.  With the few power failures I have had since I installed this UPS, I haven't had an issue and it has given me piece of mind now on my extended trips.

    Look No Further
Look no further. This is a SUPER HIGH QUALITY product that you CAN TRUST!. Do not be fooled by cheaper inferior products. They have been in business for about 95 years. Don't choose a marginal UPS that will let you down and cause you to loose your Operating System or data. I have been an electronics engineer since 1978 and concurrently in IT. If it's worth while to look into getting a UPS., it's important enough to get a QUALITY product. Nough Said! - kilocycle

    Peace of mind!
I lost a great computer to poor/dirty power because my previous UPS (by another popular brand) had quit working and I didn't know it. Now, with this product, that won't ever happen again. Better still, Tripplite's support has been OUTSTANDING! I'm not comfortable with electricity at all but they answered every question and gave support in terms I could understand and treated me very professionally. I am happy to recommend their products and service. Wish I could give 6 stars!

I am using this UPS to back up and protect my main desktop and the cable modem and wireless router, the latter two being frequent failure points here in the desert. I received this product for Christmas. It was in service the next day. The ONLY problem I noticed was that the manual was apparently written for an area with 220 VAC service. This was disconcerting but close examination of the box showed it was indeed North American standard. This cost you a star Tripp-Lite.

    Forget the monitoring!
Not compatible with windows 8.1 & 10. Sometime the os detect the battery. Most of the time nothing detected. I have tried different usb port and cable. I tried with 2 other computer same problem. The battery itself is really good but if a power drop occur the computer will not shutdown because of a software driver problem... I'm not the only one with that problem. Be aware if you buy it.

As this is for "Emergency" use, simply to give enough power until shutdown, I have 3 towers and one monitor hooked up to the backup side.  Also, several other "surge protection only" items are plugged in.  Seems to be operating in a flawless manner.

    Geat Value
Perfect UPS for multiple computers and electronics that need to be up and running in a power failure.  Modems, routers, etc.
The only unused function of the UPS is the Coax and phone line surge supression.
Internet services can't be put thru the surpressor because it reduces the signal to the point of unreliable.
This is not a defect, it's the nature of surge supression.
I plan on at least a half hour of backup, with the ability to silence the alarm, which gives me time to get generator running.

Used to supply power to computer and monitors. blocks my cable internet
Works great as a surge protector/UPS but the cable loop through blocked several channels on my cable internet. We were experiencing download speeds of less than 100kb/s with uploads 10 times that. Our cable tech showed us the data channels that were being blocked by this system. Useless for protecting modern data cables. Also, the manual was obviously intended for non North American users with line voltages in the 220 range.  I would recommend to a friend who did not have cable internet.

Seems to be the right choice
After a recent power outage, I decided to buy a battery back up.  It was easy to plug all my devices into the unit.  There was a faint odor that is normal for new electric devices such as this one.  It has dissipated and was never a real issue even in a small office area.
We have yet to have a power outage to confirm the effectiveness of the unit.  We have run a few tests and all seems well.

    Robust and reliable
I have been using several brands and units through the last fifteen years at my home as well as my business place. Situated in an area where frequent natural lightning, local browning or plain lack of electricity at the most unexpected time forced me to invested in those extra units. Where I'm using this unit for, this is the third unit I'm installing in 7 years. I had other brands before this Tripp Lite. They died too early to my taste.

I've been using Tripp Lite units in the four years at other stations and they survive better the frequent outage in my area. Today I opted again for this specific unit to keep my office networking devices on when we expect them to be on.

    1990's home office in 2016
I've had personal computers in my business since 1991 and have been a Tripp Lite customer for just as long. I haven't had a UPS in my home office since about 2000, so when I purchased this one I was thinking about the old desk side tower and huge CRT monitor, modem, etc. I had back then. Now that I use a notebook and LCD monitors, there is no load on the UPS. I now have a 4TB desktop NAS, wireless router, broadband modem, tiny workstation plugged into the UPS. Still showing "No Load".
I'm going to pull the plug from the wall to test. since the software installed on the workstation says 180 minutes remaining.

    Works great for me.
I'm using this to back up my network hardware: DSL modem, switches, wifi router, etc.  It works great and gives me plenty of run time.  I had a power outage the day I plugged it in and set it up.  It ran for an hour and a half or so before exhausted (about what I would have guessed for the load). and then shut down (the outtage was more than 24 hours).  When the power came back on it came up on its own and everything started back up and the batteries were charged up quickly.  I really like the display as it is helpful to see the loading and predicted run time.  I'm very happy with it.

    Superb piece of equipment
This is a superb piece of equipment at a good price. It is easy to implement. It is quite heavy and does take up significant space. Supplied wires could be longer to accommodate placement. On a rack or on the floor, distance to power and to equipment matters. I give it top ratings nonetheless. Then again, I am yet to suffer my first lengthy power failure.

    Tripp•Lite continues to impress
I purchased this unit for my home office to replace an aging competitor's 750VA unit. The SmartPro was put to the test within the first week when my area experienced a 40 minute power outage. The SmartPro took over instantly and continued to power my connected devices the entire 40 minutes. I couldn't ask for more. A word about the odor some reviewers have complained about - yes the unit did produce a noticeable odor after putting into service, but after about two weeks it is now barely noticeable. The smaller competitor's unit had a similar smell all those years ago, but it fades and you forget about it.

This is the second time I bought one of these units. I liked the 1st one I bought for my gaming rig, I decided to buy the exact same one to replace an old failing UPS I had my wife's computer on. The only thing i don't like about it is Tripp Lite no longer sends out monitoring software with them. I liked being able to monitor and test my UPS from my PC. Yes, this unit has the LED display on it but it sits on the floor, behind some furniture and I am old and don't want to crawl down on the floor, move the furniture to check it's health.

    Perfect for my needs
Use it to protect my home entertainment system. We have frequent voltage drops (brownouts) and momentary power outages.  This is dangerous to electronic equipment and is inconvenient when it causes my TiVo to reboot (which takes several minutes to come back up).  This UPS handles those problems admirably.  I also like the ability to see the load utilization on the front display.

Great Price, Ignore the smell it goes away.
Purchased it during hurican season in florida. Have regular brown outs in my location. I heard it click on when necessary and I haven't had any computer restarts or modem issues since I turned it on. The unit smells toxic out of the box. Plugging it in only makes matters worse. I was doubtful but people said the smell dissipated over time. Took no less than 7 days, but sure enough the smell has gone away and i can keep it about 2 feet away from me with no ill effects. I recommend running it for a week in an open environment.

Old school UPS... I expected more.
I have purchased multiple similar UPS units over the last 20 years or so.  They seem to last 2 or 3 years or so at best.   Usually after I replace the batteries in the 1-2 year time frame, the electronics fail within a year or so of battery replacement.   My last device failed about 5 years ago and I held off replacing it waiting (and hoping) for a new, improved technology that would have more features and last longer.   After installing this UPS I realized that it has the same "look and feel" as the older units, but I was encouraged to find that there was software available at no charge from Tripplite that provided monitoring and control capabilities.  After installation my enthusiasm tanked; the software is buggy and confusing and the support information on their web site is very limited.   I configured the software so that it would shut down the server when the remaining UPS capacity was down to 50% after a power failure.   I then tested the configuration and found that even when the remaining power was reduced to 40%, it still did not shut down the server despite having the USB cable connected between the UPS and the server.   When I have time, I'll go back and work on this issue again, but I expected the basic functionally to be very 'plug 'n play'.

    Reliable and easy to use
This UPS is the best for the price point and is definitely quality. It's plug-and-play and came with about 1/2 power. There is no included software, and the website offers no help, but the product doesn't require any. It's fantastic and I trust all of my electronics to it

    Good product, easy-to-follow instructions
I own other, smaller TrippLite models, but not a tower and not with replaceable batteries (albeit I would need someone else to do the replacing). For a sewing area (with a small computer), I wanted a UPS unit that I could easily turn off and on as needed. All devices need to be disconnected from the UPS outlets, but then I can simply press the front on/off button. The instructional brochure has clear diagrams of the display modes.

Great UPS everything I need and more
This is a great UPS, with more than enough power to keep a desktop, laptop, cable modem, laser printer and even my tv & cable box up and running and I'm still only at about 50% load. Also the digital readout on the front of the unit makes it very easy to see the load on the UPS and you can clearly see how dirty your power is with the readout.

This is a powerful UPS that can power all of my AV Gear
This UPS is a strong battery backup with many receptacles for backed up and surge protected devices.  The easy to read display shows you how much load you have on the unit so that you aren't surprised and you don't overload the unit.

The first unit was damaged in shipping and TrippLite was awesome, providing a replacement promptly.

    Well worth the purchase
I bought two of these units to use as backup power supplies for two Dell rack mount servers.  These UPSs work great and the optional software to monitor the UPS devices.

I will be buying either other units like these in the future or other products from Tripplite.

    Solid backup device
We recently moved to a more rural area that immediately stuck us with some fall brown-outs. I had never had a battery backup solution in place because we used to be in a skyrise building in downtown Minneapolis, that had generator backup power. We had never had a power failure. Now that we're in a suburban neighborhood, thunderstorms and winter storms have quickly made it clear that my equipment was at risk, so I started the hunt for a UPS. The budget was limited - I needed a good product at consumer pricing. The Tripplite, Smart Pro came just in time. The day after I hooked it up we experienced a major outage. It kicked in and did its job as expected. the power was out longer than the battery, so it gave me time to simply shut everything down normally. The unit is plug and play, no software to configure.

So far, no complaints and I would recommend this product.

The SmartPro gives me Peace of Mind
My current purchase of the SmartPro LCD 120V 1500VA 900W Line-Interactive UPS AVR Tower LCD USB 10 Outlets is also my third purchase. The first I bought in August, 2013, the second in August, 2014. Both the older units are all still in service, no battery replacements, no disappointments, and no trouble. We have had at least one tropical storm, one lightning strike that cooked the power supply for my HVAC, and more than one power outage of over an hour because we live in a neighborhood with aging utility infrastructure. The units replaced various other lesser units that lasted three or four years and needed batteries, or just plain died. These have screens that allow me to read their health and (presumably) anticipate battery and function problems. I added the most recent unit to protect my home theater electronics. Each power fluctuation, flicker, or plain old outage, takes my whole system down. Sometimes everything figures out what it needs to do, but sometimes not. That requires me to spend time remembering and helping all the gadgets to renew their handshake. That isn't much fun. Enter the Tripp-lite SmartPro. I also know that my delicate electronics will last longer because of the steady stream of dressed and clean power. No spikes, brownouts, etc. I have always relied on Tripp-Lite for quality electrical solutions. This product extends the legend for me.

    Good product
This works just great.  I have my TV, Home Theater system, UVerse receiver and internet modem plugged into it and it shows a very low load.  I had a storm come through a few months ago that blew out my TV and Uverse and had to replace it all.  I feel more secure knowing that everything is protected.  I didn't notice any smell at all that some others complained about.  Also, mine worked perfectly when I first set it up and still does.  I'm very happy!

    Abysmal quality control.
The 1st one arrived and emitted a burning smell when on. I tried the backup operation by unplugging it and  made a fast clicking sound while the output voltage sagged badly. I got an RMA as DOA, and, after a few days, received a replacement. This one arrived with the case top retaining tabs almost all broken off and lying inside the box. It does, however, work. I am waiting to hear from Tripp Lite as to what they would like to do this time.

The packaging is insufficient for the weight of the product. The styrofoam packaging was all broken up on both of them. If they were packed better they MAY survive. Of course, they're made in China. That probably won't change in the near future. I have another of the exact same model I purchased earlier, and it too arrived with the styrofoam smashed. It is undamaged and has been running for over 6 months now.

Great product, does what it is supposed to do
I use this to back up my computer, monitor, router and storage drives at my computer in my cabin. We are prone to power loss in the winter and this gives me plenty of time to safely continue a download and then shut down the system with no loss of data.  Happened just this last weekend during a rain storm. No problems.  Worth every penny to me.

Love the unit for my whole house sound amps
Will power 2 receivers, an amp and various switches for 20 minutes.  Really bought this because i'd had 2 HDMI splitter/switches go out over the past 3 years.  This gives me slightly cleaner power and presumably better surge protection.  Lets hope it does the job.

    Happy to have these online
All units arrived in good condition. Would rather not have to test them in a real situation. But it's nice to have the security there. I believe that all Tripp Lite units should also have a USB port to charge cell phones and other devices using utilizing the battery as well as the standard plugs. 4 stars as they are not tested in a real nasty  situation. Hopefully never.

It does the job and at a great price.
I hooked up our internet receiver, modem and security camera before heading away.
Power outage was detected by our security system and lasted for three hours.
Internet functionality never stalled and accessing the security camera online was as normal.
Very please with the purchase. The only caveat I have is that I have not had this unit for very long, so durability has not been proven.

    Great unit, long run time
    I bought two units.
One I use with several devices on the battery backup.
    * a rather hefty desktop computer
    * two screens
    * a printer
    * a nine watt LED lamp (in case of power failure at night)
I loaded up a game that uses quite a lot of computer horsepower.
The front panel LCD display on the UPS showed about 200W.
I then unplugged it from the wall outlet.
The UPS switched to battery backup without a glitch.
The LCD display showed 30 minutes run-time -- plenty of time to finish up what ever and shut down.

The second UPS is used for my network with two devices on the battery backup.
    * a cable modem
    * a wireless router
With these devices, the LCD display shows no load.
With the UPS unplugged, the LCD display shows 180 minutes of run-time.

The only down-side, and the reason that it got 4 stars instead of 5, is the noise of the fan when it goes on battery backup.

    Best UPS I have had
Form factor 10/10. User replaceable batteries 10/10. Number of outlets (5 backup and surge/5 surge only) 10/10. Information screen 10/10. You can also download user interface software and hook up to a computer for additional management options. I chose not to do it because it just seemed redundant to the UPS hardware screen itself.

So far, no problems. I like it.
The only problem I had was the computer didn't properly recognize it when I plugged in the USB cord. I searched Tripp-Lite's site for drivers and couldn't find any. It turned out that they weren't needed, but it would have been nice to know that. There's almost no information about installing the product. It showed up in Device Manager but showed a problem as if it needed a driver. I wound up unplugging the USB cable and plugging it in again and the problem went away, so I'm guessing it was just a bad connection. However, a little more install instructions from Tripp-Lite would have solved the headache. It would have been nice to know that a driver wasn't needed. I would then have looked elsewhere for the problem.

Tripp-Lite is always my first choice for an UPS
I have been using Tripp-Lite UPS power backups for 30 years and they have never failed me.  I bought the SmartPro LCD UPS because of the power line conditioning.  The UPS is the first line of defense for power failures, but when you have power surges or power line dips the SmartPro takes care of this by using the buck/boost features.  Computer circuits do not work well when the power dips below 100 VAC or when it surges over 125 VAC.  The SmartPro LCD corrects these problems so your computing is safe and you don't even have to think about it ... it just works.  Day & Night, 24/7 all year long.  It's a Tripp-LIte and it works!

    Replacement of Ultra 1500 UPS
I purchased this to replace a defective Ultra 1500 UPS.  I also have 2 American Power Conversion SmartUPS 1500 units which have worked well over the years, but when comparing purchasing another of their units vs. a TrippLite I decided to give TrippLite a shot.  I am pleased with it so far after about 60 days, and it is comparable to the their units I still have but at a significantly lower price point.  The LCD display shows the same information as theirs and so far it's handled my needs just as well.

A few days after installing this TrippLite to protect our low wattage items (TV, Modem, router, IPad & iPhobe chargers) we had an extension cord shirt under our recliner chair. Instead of causing a fire, this unit safely disconnected the power with no damage to any equipment or the UPS!  All we had to do was remove the damaged cord and reset the UPS to clear the short warning message. THANK YOU!

    Excellent Product
The SmartPro LCD 1500VA with the easy to read front display is an excellent product. Received just in time because of stormy weather causing power outages. The unit carried the computers and associated equipment until generator started. Have used other UPS's, but like this the best. (there was a odor when first started, about a week, until unit burned in, no odor now. If used in small or closed in area, it would be advisable to start unit in another area for 7 to 10 days) Other than burn in odor, unit has been flawless, and would recommend highly!!!

We use the SmartPro LCD 120V 50/60Hz 1500VA 900W  unit for when we test our generator and we have a few seconds off down time as the switch boxes transfers from utility service to generator.

I would buy this again and I will for my other computers
This UPS is great! I have experienced two power outages in two days and this UPS never missed a beat. The Mac was not aware that we lost power so no files or work suffered any harm. Further, I could read the display to know how much time I had left before I would have to shut down. Great machine at a very good price.

    Life saver
I live in tornado alley and we have really bad storms. The other nite power went off and on for two hours and this SmartPro ups worked flawlessly. Best money I have spent in a long time. Setup was easy and quick, had me up and tuning in less then 10 minutes from unboxing to to boot up.

    Excellent Workstation UPS
We purchased 20 of these for our staff. 1 was buzzing from a malfunctioning transformer. Tripplite replaced it free of charge after a short troubleshooting session with their Tech support(American Tech). We have had one outage and they all performed flawlessly. Looking to purchase more in the future.

    Best in Class!!
I have an old power hungry Intel Core i7 2700k, with a MSI nVidia GTX 970, 5 HDDs, a small NAS, a Netgear cable modem and a 40 inch 4k Samsung TV as monitor, this beast of a battery was able to hold about 15 mins while I kept gaming waiting for the power to come back. Eventually I realized it was going to take a while for the power to come back on quit the game and shutdown the PC. IMO the best UPS in its class!
    Have used other makes before

    Tripp-Lite SmartPRO
Tripp-Lite is always synonymous with quality &  dependablity.   Have used other popular brands but they've all failed just outside their warranty period.  Have several SmartPros in production and they continue to work well beyond the warranty period.   Won't by another brand.

    Good UPS, great support experience
I have a single computer which is always on hooked to this UPS. It generally will keep that system up for 20 minutes or so of a power failure.  I had my first UPS of this model for about a year when it started beeping and giving me a fault notice and it wouldn't keep the system on with power failures any longer.  I contacted support and after just a few questions they sent a replacement unit which has been working fine since as far as I know as I have only tested it once since then.

I would highly recommend this product to anyone.
This unit protects my desktop computer and printer. I experience one instance that it did just that. Instead of my computer and printer being zapped by what appeared to be an electric spike, the Tripp Lite tripped the room circuit breaker rather than damaging my PC and printer. Since the computer and printer stayed on I didn't lose any data nor have any damage done to them. The only negative would be that it's not easily moved because of the weight and does take up more room than a smaller less powerful unit. A small price to pay for a good product.

    Finally a UPS that Works
The last other brand UPS took out my power supply and luckily not my entire computer. It was not actually trying to supply power(power outage) but just blew up. I will never trust that well known brand again. I had two old refurbished energex ups that worked great but after 15 years and several battery replacements finally died. I was happy and would have replaced them with new ones but the cost was too high for my needs. Tripp-lite filled the bill with good cost and robust protection. So far through  at least a half a dozen  power outages they have works flawlessly.  I now have two. one for my two computers plus 15TB NAS and HTPC in the living room. Very happy with both. Now over two years in and no problems. My belief is you should install them and never have to look again. Tripp-lite meets this criteria. Good product.
This is not meant to address the many different topologies or the various needs and requirements a UPS can supply but simply a testimony to my needs and satisfaction. .

    Sturdy, reliable, functional
Everything seems to go on batteries these days. I purchased this unit about two years ago after a different battery-backup UPS system (different brand) proved inadequate. I run a Windows 7 Pro system with 2 1-TB harddrives, four 23-inch LCD monitors, two laser printers and a 15-inch MacBook Pro (with a 24-inch external monitor). All this is my workstation, my home office system, and I need it to run 24/7.

I probably spent $80-$100 on this baby when I purchased it, and every time there was a thunderstorm or some summer-induced brownout, I didn't need to rush and save files and close applications because the UPS would keep my system running for 15-20 minutes. Since these were brownouts, not lasting more than 1-2 minutes, the only thing flickering were some of the monitors powering down and coming back to life.

This UPS worked so well that I forgot to replace the depleted batteries a couple months ago and my Windows machine would shut down after a brownout. Buying a set of batteries is a good investment (the batteries last for 2-3 years anyway). No rocket science degree needed to install these batteries. This week, a brownout happened and the UPS just beeped to alert me of that, and I had nothing to fear.

I use this UPS for my home computer system including my printer, router and modem. It runs flawlessly and with the smart application it will take down my system after a preset amount of time. Living in FL we have many outages due to thunder storms and this UPS keeps my equipment safe from surges etc.
Tripp Lite products are well made and customer service if needed is very good.

    Off to a slow start
Needed a UPS for the security system, so needed a fair amount of run time, not just enough to shut things down.   This definitely fills the bill giving us over 2 hours.   However, at this discharge rate, two of the meter displays don't register.   Took two calls to customer support to determine this.   Even though the example pictures in the manual show the meter displaying a low level discharge, apparently they don't.

It would be nice if the meters worked, regardless of rate, or at least have it mentioned somewhere there is a minimum discharge rated needed.   At the very least, the example pictures should at least show numbers that actually worked.  Just seems odd it can't display how many watts are being drawn, yet, it will display how much run time is left, so it's obviously reading the draw.

Also, while there are 10 outlets, they are mostly close together.  With the big adapters at the end of many plugs, it reduces the number of usable outlets to half that.

If it weren't for the meters not displaying at low levels, the close outlets, and it requiring 2 calls to customer service to determine this, it would rate 5 stars.

Everything else is top notch.   Pull the plug, and the security system stays running, which is what it's designed to do.

    So far, so good!
I bought it to backup my console and tv. It does the job very well. I like that it's able to display different readings. Battery life is good. It'll last about 40 to 50 minutes running those loads (approx. 120W). My one complaint is the estimate time remaining. It could be improved. The time reading fluctuates +- 5 minutes and once it actually ran for more than 20 minutes with a reading of 0 minutes before the warning sounds came on.

    Works as expected
I bought this UPS for my home office which includes the following devices:
    On Battery Backup:
    - Modem
    - Router
    - Gaming Desktop
    - HP DL360 G6 Server
    - 4 Bay eSATA storage array
    Surge only:
    - 2x 24" Dell monitors
    - Printer

    Average consumption/utilization: 30%
Estimated time on battery: 30 minutes

Overall the product works as intended, however I did run into issues if wall power is lost with the HP server (it didn't stay powered on).

    Nice hardware, poor software
My 900VA APS offline UPS died and I was in the market for a replacement. We have been experiencing more issues with line voltage stability lately (mostly sags) so I researched online active systems. After reading several reviews the SmartPro line looked best for my needs. The UPS itself has worked flawless, picking up sags that used to reset my PC. The Tripp Lite PowerAlert software though has a lot of issues and is essentially useless for managing my SmartPro unit. The software usually fails to find the USB-attached UPS unit and when it does it generally drops connection within 5-10 minutes. The app appears to be a relatively basic java script kluge. In comparison, the Powerchute software that came with my old APS feels far more professional.
The features of the software are not an essential need for me though so I am still OK with my purchase. I would recommend this UPS for applications where you can live without monitoring.

    Gr8 budget UPS
I use this as a backup for my 4-bay 8Tb media server, WiFi router, cable modem, VoIP, and smart switch. Basically, it runs everything connecting my PCs and Home Theater to the internet and each other. I usually buy the other two big guns in the business but the Tripp Lite had so many features and value that I just wanted to give it a shot. This is a big unit with more outlets than I need and more reserve too. The Smart feature is not used since there is nothing attached that could use it so I cannot say anything about its function. But I can say this is a rock solid unit, equally as good as my S20BLK at a considerable savings. So if your needs are modest as mine were you may want to give this unit an audition. It's a keeper in my system.

Don't understand why outlets can't be oriented properly
It is hard to rate a UPS while it is new and hasn't had to save my bacon yet. Easy setup, clear instructions. I really like the display panel - now I can see what is going on with my power. However, thumbs down for spacing and layout of battery-backed outlets. I only wanted to connect three normal cords and two small power bricks. Because the outlets were so close and oriented in the wrong direction, had to use an "extension cord" to accommodate the power bricks (which is not recommended). Don't understand why the product designers can figure out a way to accommodate power bricks.

    Noisy fan
I bought two of these units to power and protect my TV, stereo unit, set top box and DVR whilst the second one powers and protects my security cameras and NVR unit. I am disappointed that the cooling fans are so noisy when the AVR is operating. Our power supply is quiet ordinary with the input voltage always around 130 or even a little higher. Hence tha cooling fan operating most of the time. The unit itself I am happy with with both the protection side and backup power. I had read reviews on other units and this one was suppose to be the quietist when running. If you can put up with the noise then I would recommend buying it.

Better deal compared to another reknown brand......
Voltage regulation & UPS in one product! So far, there have been no power problems after 3 weeks of use. With a Bronze Class Power Supply, my desktop can survive about 40 minutes of power loss which is plenty of time to finish a mean game and sign off. I only use 200 watts in high-power mode and this beauty could easily do 600 watts (with less time available during power failures, etc). If you are wise about energy consumption (carbon footprints), this product is one of the best values.

I haven't owned this long enough to rate based on performance over time, meaning I do not know how quickly battery capacity degrades. We have many brown outs and black outs during the monsoon season.  This is my second Tripp Lite UPS and I am still using the first one which is almost a year old.  I like having my computer, monitor, gateway and other items secure if the power goes out.  So far, the outages have been of short duration and I can't comment on how long the battery lasts.  But I like being able to have time to shut down as much equipment as possible when it does happen.

    Great product.
Great UPS all tests have gone flawlessly, seems to have fixed a power issue I was having, and a great price?

    Great battery but poor software
The software is not working properly. The battery keeps disconnecting/reconnecting on my PC.

These keep me connected to work during outages.
I installed three of these in my home, one in the network closet, one on my work PC and peripherals, and one on my wood stove blower fan (yeah, we live in the past up here, for heat).
In the network closet, I have a Cisco POE 48 port switch, two Cisco 881w routers, two cable modems, Meraki MX84, Meraki 8 port POE switch, SmartThings hub, Hue hub, and a 4K -16 channel NVR with POE. I'm running at about 20% and get 76min of backup time.
For the others, the stove fan is 250 watt, and the one at my desk with my PC is not much higher than that (hp powerdesk with i7). For each of those, I get almost 2 hours time.
If you live anywhere where power is a concern, I would advise you purchase these. I work from home, so staying connected in a power outage is a necessity.

When you depend on power for something like your father's lift chair you need some backup like this tripplite. Now we can stop worrying that the power will go off leaving dad trapped in his chair.

I got two Trip lites a while ago and just added two more
I have three 1300VA and one 1500VA Trip lite UPS.  One for the office phone with computer, one for a night time breathing C-pack, one for the Direct TV receiver with TV and one for the tankless water heater.  Being able to view the line voltage is nice, to easily run the system muted is essential and they work flawlessly to include filling in during the brownouts seamlessly.  They are problem free and reliable.

A great product I can trust.
Tripp•Lite UPS has been my go to surge protection and ups system for years. They back their products 100%. This system is no different. I'm really liking the LCD. I have way too much money invested in my computer system to trust anything but this brand.

I would recommend this product to protect gaming equipment
I use this UPS to protect my gaming PC, electrical service provides low volts during the day until 8pm, So far the Smart Pro LCD 1500VA/900W has protected my gaming station against blakouts correctly. I feel good with this purchase.

    Just what the doctor ordered.
As a disabled combat veteran I am a shut-in, as such my electronics see much more use than the average user, especially my gaming computer.  As my area also experiences rolling blackouts when the energy company needs to compensate for a large hospital complex within a mile of my house I fear for the longevity of my electronics. I am able to run them all through this UPS and when hit with blackouts, the UPS did exactly what it should, it gave me time to shutdown my equipment properly, and run emergency equipment for a short amount of time off the batteries. Thank you.

I would by this and any other Tripp Lite product again.
Received my original unit quickly, however it developed an issue that tech support promptly resolved by shipping me a new unit. Couldn't ask for better product support.

    Good value for the $
Easy to use and not too large. We had a UPS about 4 times as big but now thatw e have a home generator I just need somethign to get me through the gaps. I tested this and it cna run my laptop, phone, router and modem for over 5 hours. so gap is covered.

Highly recommended. I would buy this product again.
Great product. Came with full battery charge. Able to support my desktop computer with almost 60 minutes power outage. Software install was simple though I needed support line to walk me through configuration of my settings.
Very quiet and you can hardly hear it working. I am very pleased with the software interface. I would purchase this product again. Highly recommended. One thing I am not yet certain about is whether UPS will power back up on its own if power is restored. Time will tell.

I plan to buy more of these for sure.
Typical use, uninterruptable power supply for desktop computers and some of our lab instruments.  We are located in Water and Waste Water treatment plants.  All the industrial sized electrical equipment like 100+ horsepower motors turning off and on, gives us dirty power.  I like the capacity of these units.  The LCD display gives instant feedback as to what is going on.  Also the units were a breeze to set up and use.  Batteries were fully charged out of the box.

    it works.
It seems to be working well enough but there's no way to test it for more than a minute without unplugging it.

    Pros
    - works
    - warranty
    - Windows 10 automatically detects that you're now using a battery so you can set the settings appropriately (automatic shut down)

    Cons
    - Smells like burning always. It's not super strong or anything but it's pretty noticeable even buried under my desk.
    - No way to turn off or even dim the lcd. It's bright as heck, I've taped the instruction booklet over it since it's in my bedroom.
    - The software doesn't come in the package and when you finally do find it online, it doesn't work... Like at all... looks like it was made for windows 95 or something. Won't even connect.
    - Can't run test for longer.

Honestly I'd give it a 4 if it weren't for the burning smell at least. I may come back and re-review depending on how long it lasts.

    Does the job very nicely!
I have three computers connected to this UPS. It performs very well and have not had any issues with it. This is my second unit, with the first unit still performing as expected. With 5 Battery protected outlets and 5 surge protected outlets, it does the job very nicely.

    Totally worth the money
The UPS came right on time as promised.  Packaged very nice and protected.  Once I set it up, and plugged it into the wall, I immediately started working and needed very little charging.  Ran the test and it worked just like it should. Great product

I would be this product again and I already did.
We have our server plugged into this and it has worked great.  We have been having power fluctuations due to weather and construction in our complex and it has performed as expected.

    Reliable and capable
For my man cave. Small fridge, computer set, 5.1 audio and 32 LCD. Good that this got multiple displays for easy check and monitoring.
    Just awesome.

    Definitely would recommend
I use it to protect my gaming PC and it has lasted for years.  I never had any issues.  The only thing I would make anyone buying one of these units aware of is that the fan that keeps the unit cooled is loud.
