The U209-000-R USB-to-Serial Adapter Cable allows you to connect a 9-pin RS-232 serial device to a computer or laptop with a USB Type-A port. It works with modems, digital cameras, PDAs, ISDN terminals and other devices with a serial port. The U209-000-R supports data transfer speeds up to 230 Kbpstwice as fast as a built-in serial port. No external power is required, and the compact 5-foot cable tucks away conveniently in your backpack or laptop bag for easy traveling. Doubled-shielded design with gold-plated contacts, tinned copper braid and aluminum Mylar foil shield eliminates crosstalk and reduces EMI/RFI interference. Compatible with Linux Red Hat 7.3, 8.0 and 9.0; Mac OS X 10.6-10.10; Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003, Server 2008, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, Server 2012, 10. Also works with Android tablets and smartphones with the addition of a USB Host Mode (OTG) cable. This product is easy to set up and gives excellant performance

The Tripp Lite USB-RS232 Adapter was simple to set up and works perfectly. I am using the adapter to connect serial Amateur Radio equipment to my Windows 7 computer for the purpose of memory programing and Firm-Ware updates. The adapter provides an easy to use and effective tool allowing me to connect my older serial equipment to my Windows 7 computer's USB port.

USB to Serial Adapter

The U209-000-R is a reliable yet simple USB to serial converter. It can install and run automatically off a driver that is installed via windows (no need to have your disk)

Great Product

I recently upgraded my computer. Now I have no 9 pin serial port. I needed to interface with a gas monitor to download logged data. I plugged in the U209-000-R and it connected immediately with no problems. It is a great product.

Great item, hard to keep in my toolkit!

This device just works, every time! This is the reason I have just ordered 3 more. Colleagues borrow them and I never see them again! Works on every machine I have tried to date.

Very good

It is very versatile product. It eliminated necessity to carry 2-3 cables at a time to connect to a device. In our plant we always use this cable day to day with ease of operation.

Completely reliable

Customers of the company I work for have numerous legacy devices in the field that have had to convert from RS232 to USB. This is the only converter we support. No other comes close to the trouble free installation/operation of this device.

Product in the box not the same as description.

Cable is only 1.5ft long instead of 5 ft.

Will only work on Windows PC - not Linux and Mac as description says.

Filled our needs completely

In our environment, sometimes we run into older machines needing access to newer technology or vice versa. This product was purchase to be used in a scientific lab and we were very happy with the results. Drivers loaded very easily, and communication was established without error.

Fits the requiement to a T

Many electric utility SCADA, relays and test equipment still use serial connections and of course the newer PCs do no have serial ports. This solves the problem with ease.

Very smooth and easy installation

I've used a number of USB to serial adapters with my Mac over the years. Each couple of OSX updates seems to break support and require new software and/or drivers. This unit installed easily and worked right away whereas many other ones I have failed to work under the current OS (Yosemite 10.10.2).

nice cable, good build quality

Purchased this to talk to old slc plcs. All laptops are using Windows 7. All used it just fine by plugging it in. Only one required drivers. Don't know why. Other than that, seems to work great.

USB to Serial Adapter Cable (USB-A to DB9 M/M) 5-ft.

Our organization uses amateur radio for redundant communications. Part of those communications utilize RMS Express. In order to connect our laptops to the radios we now only use the Tripp-Lite U209-000-R. The drivers load quickly and we don't have to worry about making sure that we have the same cable with the exact same radio. We have tried a number of other connectors over the years, but none deliver the consistency and reliability of the Tripp-Lite. When an emergency strikes, it is good to know that we can still communicate no matter what happens. Thanks, Tripp-Lite!

We have ordered this product over 60 times and counting!

We have used this item over 60 times in different clinics. Since first purchase, we have never found a need to replace them. The driver takes seconds to install, and the connection to our lab equipment has been seamless. The only concern is the Serial end only has Male connectors. Our adapter for lab equipment is also Male, so we have to work a little harder for cable management. From a functionality front, we wouldn't change a thing!

Good product

It's a good, durable product. Seems high quality. I had do download the driver from the website since my computer does not have CD reader to install from the CD supplied with the cable. Overall very satisfied.
